SANE launches new round of Creative Awards Scheme

SANE is delighted to open a new round of funding for its Creative Awards Scheme following the huge response to previous rounds.

The SANE Creative Awards Scheme aims to improve the quality of life for people with mental health problems, their families and carers. Applications are judged on their artistic merit, clarity of aim and financial need. There are three levels of awards: £100, £200 and £300.

Applicants are assessed by a panel, which includes representatives of SANE, and professional artists from the Open College of the Arts who offer feedback, guidance and advice. Awards are given for proposals in visual art, which includes all forms of painting, drawing, printmaking, photography, mixed media and digital art.

The scheme was launched in 2019. In the three rounds to date, artists have submitted work of outstanding quality and more than 220 awards have been made. Two award-winners had work included in last year’s Royal Academy Summer Exhibition.

Marjorie Wallace CBE, Founder and Chief Executive of SANE, says:

“People continue to respond to the scheme in a remarkable way, sharing stunning and diverse work along with their poignant personal stories. We are both touched and pleased to see how the scheme has grown in such a short time and the positive impact it is having on award winners’ artistic aspirations.”

SANE is working in partnership on the scheme with the Open College of the Arts.

Will Woods, Principal and CEO of the Open College of the Arts, says:

“The Open College of the Arts is very excited to be partnering yet again on the SANE Creative Awards scheme. The judging panel of tutors from the college found last year’s entries to be both inspiring and deeply moving. Most importantly, the art that has been produced as a consequence of this scheme over the past three years is helping successful applicants to gain confidence, creativity, self-expression and encouragement. I look forward to seeing the positive outcomes from this year’s scheme.”

To apply, download the Application Form below (Word doc, 136KB) which includes information about the application process. You can also read this on the Guidelines and Applications page.
