Lunar Shooter supports SANE with new album
SANE is delighted to announce that long-time supporter Lunar Shooter has released a new album with all royalties going to support the charity.
Reflections is available by digital download and shows that whatever challenges you face, schizophrenia need not stifle creativity. As implied by the name, aim high and anything is possible!
Lunar Shooter has experienced mental health problems since he was diagnosed with paranoid schizophrenia as a teenager. After being sectioned under the Mental Health Act in a secure unit, he received providential treatment as an inpatient in various clinics by truly inspired and compassionate professionals.
His symptoms include auditory, visual and olfactory hallucinations, night terrors, thought projections and polarised mood swings. Day and night, the horrors of this deeply distressing condition must be endured.
Advances in medication and various therapies have helped with strategies to manage day-to-day life. Crucially, a wonderful partner, close and extended family, together with an extensive network of friends and health team, have been pivotal to survival.
Despite all that this multi-instrumentalist confronts, there are periods of intense creativity. When immersed in these fertile patches, which can last for one to two weeks, Lunar Shooter’s head is filled with chordal progressions, rhythmic structures, and searing harmonies and melodies. From there, is the compulsion to replicate these elements into tangible realms, which must be pieced together, bringing all the complexities to life.
The musician says: “Since my diagnosis of paranoid schizophrenia in my teens, my musical endeavours are a lifeline. Despite having to endure the horrors of this deeply distressing condition, I experience periods of intense musical creativity.
“By the release of my compositions through the leading mental health charity, SANE, it is an honour to be able to assist the raising of vital funds for this extraordinary organisation. Their pivotal and influential work is literally saving lives.”
Lunar Shooter has campaigned for SANE for over 20 years, composed approximately 300 pieces and released three albums. Alongside these are various published articles regarding psychotic disorder, including in The Huffington Post, Schizophrenia Bulletin and Happiful Magazine.
