Understanding mental illness

Navigating the mental healthcare and support system can feel like a daunting task, especially if the person you care for is newly diagnosed and you have not had any interaction with these services before.

Arming yourself with knowledge about the symptoms of specific mental illnesses, so that you are aware of warning signs if they arise.

Be prepared to ask how you can support the person who is struggling.

Below are links to pages featuring mental health conditions, care treatments and therapies, what they involve and how you can get the best from this type of help.

There is also helpful information and guidance about some of the situations that family, friends and carers of those with a mental health diagnosis may encounter.
