SANE thanks Universal Pictures for screening of ‘The Silent Twins’

SANE thanks Universal Pictures for hosting a private screening of ‘The Silent Twins’, a new major motion film. The film is based on the book of the same name, written by SANE CEO and founder, Marjorie Wallace.

Friends of SANE from all walks of life attended the event on Tuesday 6 December at The Courthouse Hotel. These included the stars of the film Tamara Lawrance and Letitia Wright, professors from SANE’s Prince of Wales International Centre for SANE Research, and highly valued SANEline volunteers. Together, they had the opportunity to watch the film ‘The Silent Twins’ before general release later that week.

The film follows the true story June and Jennifer Gibbons, a pair of identical twins locked in a pack of silence. Their pact culminated in an 11-year sentence in Broadmoor and had tragic consequences. SANE CEO and founder Marjorie Wallace became the twins’ confident and champion. As an investigative journalist, Marjorie campaigned in The Sunday Times for their release and is great friends with the surviving twin 40 years on.

This true story is as pertinent now as it was in the 1980s, when Marjorie Wallace first spoke to June and Jennifer Gibbons. Their story raises questions of how young, marginalised people are treated and what space there is for people who use their voice in different ways.

‘The Silent Twins’ film is out in cinemas now and the book with a new epilogue is available to purchase.
