Feeling guilt or shame

Experiences of guilt and shame are part of feeling a lack of worth. They can also be a direct response to the experience of feeling suicidal, particularly if this involves making a suicide attempt.

“He didn't really like people to worry over much about him. That's perhaps one reason why. Or he was embarrassed and ashamed to admit what he really was doing. But you see he wouldn't want anybody to be upset about what was happening to him. And I think that was partly why he didn't like to talk, I think he thought if I speak about all this, Mum's going to be so upset and I'm going to feel really bad.”
