Latest SANE Creative Awards Scheme to help fulfil people’s creative potential
SANE is delighted to open a new round of its Creative Awards Scheme following the unprecedented response to previous rounds.
The SANE Creative Awards Scheme aims to improve the quality of life for people with mental health problems, their families and carers, by helping them to fulfil their creative potential. Applications are judged on their artistic merit, clarity of aim and financial need.
Visual art
There are three levels of awards: £100, £200 and £300. Applicants are assessed by a panel, which includes representatives of SANE, and professional artists from the Open College of the Arts who offer feedback, guidance and advice.
Awards are given for proposals in visual art, which includes all forms of painting, drawing, printmaking, photography, mixed media and digital art. The scheme was launched in 2019 and in the four rounds to date, artists have submitted work of outstanding quality and 342 awards have been given.

Marjorie Wallace CBE, Founder and Chief Executive of SANE, said: “We are always incredibly moved by the talent and stories people share. The response to the scheme is remarkable and speaks volumes as to how it can rekindle an individual’s self-esteem and invigorate their artistic development.”
Partnership
SANE is working in partnership on the scheme with the Open College of the Arts (OCA), which is part of The Open University Group.
Will Woods, OCA Principal, said: “The Open College of the Arts is proud to be the partner on the SANE Creative Awards Scheme. Through our support for this scheme over the past four years we have seen many successful applicants produce outstanding pieces of art. I look forward to seeing the submissions from this year’s entries and wish all applicants well on their journeys.”
