Being untrustworthy

One consequence of losing trust in others, can be others losing trust in you. A person may feel people don’t trust them because of things they've done in the past, such as previous suicide attempts.

The person may try very hard to gain trust, but find they are met with suspicion by those around them, who are scared by what is happening. This can become a vicious circle, as the person hides their true feelings in an attempt to gain trust, and unintentionally becomes less trustworthy in the process.

“The longer the suicide attempts go on for, the more I feel my family don't trust me, because of what I've done before. And the more I have to try and prove that I can be trusted. I find it quite hard, because I feel as if I've got to keep that show.”
