Feeling like a failure

When suicidal, people may feel they have failed to fulfil their potential and have wasted the opportunities given to them.

It seems to them that the possibilities they once had are now lost forever, and their life has no value.

“I feel very worthless, unimportant, done nothing with my life. I just feel really crap about my life, I feel as though I had so many opportunities that I should have taken, and I didn't.”

Family/friend point of view

“When she was thinking about other people being suicidal, then she acted and spoke as if she thought that life was of value, their lives were of value - but not hers. And that’s tied into perhaps the pride she had and expectations she had of herself as a young girl, and the huge disappointment that she hadn’t achieved what she expected to achieve in life. The thing about not being able to find any value in life, without achievement, she tried very hard to get back into education in order to get in some sort of position in life where she could contribute and give back and be appreciated.”
