SANE fundraiser does it again
Added: 22nd Jun 2018

Fundraiser Daniel Cross has scaled the heights of Mount Everest, explored the dry-stone walls of Machu Picchu and now he has completed a run for SANE! Is there anything our new Star Fundraiser can't do?

Daniel ran the Liverpool Half Marathon for SANE and finished the whole route in just 2 hours.

The marathon took place on 20th May and it was Daniel’s first attempt at a run with this distance (13 miles). It was a real challenge that Daniel set himself and he faced it with great determination and hard work.

‘The morning of the race I was very nervous as I hadn’t got in as much training as I would have liked and the thought that I might not finish came into my mind.’

But of course, Daniel proved his thoughts wrong and finished the race in an amazing time of 02.11.42!

‘I started off fairly well and was keeping good pace to come in under 2 hours but the last few miles towards the end slowed me down a lot. With the support from other runners around me, pushing me on to run the last mile, I finished the race.’

Daniel wanted to run for SANE and during his research finding mental health charities to run for, he was moved by the services we provide.

‘After coming across SANE’s page and having a read through some of the blogs, messages and the caller care support. Realising that just £25 can help a SANE volunteer contact someone struggling even just for an hour is important. Just being able to get any issues off your chest and talk to someone who will listen and understand what you’re going through makes a big difference and is a good first step.’

Last year, he took part in the Machu Picchu and Everest Base Camp Trek for SANE. Again, these were great challenges for our high-achieving fundraiser, but knowing the difference his donation would make kept him walking.

‘Both the Inca Trail Trek to reach Machu Picchu and the Everest Base Camp Trek were both really challenging as I hadn’t had much hiking experience before, and especially the high altitude trekking during the base camp hike was tough. But knowing the money raised was going towards helping other people kept me going on both hikes and made the trips even more rewarding.’

For both events, he raised a great 1,535!

So from Daniel’s great fundraising for SANE so far, he has managed to help SANE hire a new volunteer. They will help us reach even more people in need of emotional support.

We want to thank Daniel for his outstanding efforts in raising money for SANE; he is a true advocate for wanting to make a difference for mental health and we applaud him on his great achievements.  Well done!
