Ultimate Spinnaker Tower abseil for SANE
Added: 1st Jun 2018

On 25th May, 50 brave employees of charity partner and biotechnology company, Roche, abseiled the great Emirates Spinnaker Tower in Portsmouth!

We had 20 fundraisers from Roche in Welwyn Garden City and 30 from Roche Diagnostics in Burgess Hill take part in this abseil experience.

So far, the Burgess Hill team have raised over £11,000 for SANE and Welwyn Garden City, over £8,000 - that is over £19,000 from both teams which is just amazing!

Many of the individuals faced their fears descending from the 560 foot high building, whereas others sky-rocketed down the tower with smiles on their faces.

SANE went on the day to support. We came away with a huge sense of admiration for the courageous fundraisers.

Simone Moraes, SANE’s Community and Events Officer said:

‘It was a joy to watch the brave abseilers from Roche descending from the Spinnaker Tower and an honour to award them with a Certificate of Excellence for their spectacular fundraising. Thanks to them, SANE will be able to fully train 16 new volunteers who in turn will provide understanding, acceptance, empathy, compassion and hope to individuals, their families, friends and carers.

A huge thanks to all participants and organisers of this event from Roche.’

Joanna Christophi, SANE's Head of Fundraising and Marketing said:

‘Roche staff really embraced the challenge for charity – so brave! It takes a lot of gumption to take part in something like this.’

Each employee came away with a Roche medal, a Spinnaker Tower medal and a special certificate of congratulations from SANE to remind them of their great deed!

The weather was definitely on side as the sun was shining on the coastal town; most fundraisers even treated themselves to great food on the harbour or took advantage of the Gunwharf Quays and wound down with some well-deserved retail therapy.

All in all, it was a fantastic event and SANE would like to thank all the staff at Roche who continue to work hard and support SANE. We are so grateful for all your efforts and want you to know that you are indeed helping change mental health for good!

Keep it up!
