Inspired father runs for mental health
Added: 2nd Mar 2018

Father and daughter, Simon and Kitty, raise an amazing £5,500 for SANE!

Although not directly affected by mental health issues, Simon was inspired by his daughter, Kitty, and her school nominated charity to run the first Marathon Des Sables, across the Inca desert in Peru.

Kitty attends the Royal Masonic School for Girls, who have been great supporters of SANE's work this year!

The MdS has been called the toughest footrace on earth, comprising a self supported 250km run across desert conditions in temperatures of up 40 degrees centigrade!

'The race is as much a mental challenge as one of fitness and therefore SANE seems a fitting charity to run for. In such an event where competing over six days which involves pushing oneself to extremes, knowing that many people will benefit from the money raised for Sane, is a great motivator during some of the low points'.

Simon was able to complete the race without any major injury, and came away a little slimmer - bonus! He managed to finish in 40th place overall as the first British veteran.

'Simon's resilience and determination to participate in the Marathon Des Sables and fundraise for SANE is truly admirable! Thank you very much!' Simone Moraes, Community and Events Officer

A huge thank you to both Simon and Kitty for their hard work and a thank you to all those who supported them on this tough event. We really appreciate all the time our fundraisers give to support our work and we thank you all raising awareness of mental health!
