Father and daughter race
Added: 21st Nov 2017

Father and daughter run for SANE and raise over £1000, exceeding their target!

On 15th October, Beth and her dad ran their first half marathon together, the Leicester Marathon. They managed to finish the 13 miles in just under 2 hours – which is pretty amazing, seeing as Beth’s dad had no training in the lead up to the event.

‘This was the first exercise my Dad had done in 6 weeks due to injury, so on the day we did not know what to expect, I was preparing myself to piggy back him for 13 miles!’

Friends, family and their family dog all came to support Beth and her dad on the day. She says the atmosphere and cheering from the crowds was amazing and their great support is shown in the result of their wonderful fundraising.

Beth was really excited to raise awareness of mental health.

‘As a family, we have experienced first-hand the effects and devastation a mental health illness can cause. We therefore chose to support SANE, a leading mental health charity, so the money we raised can go towards raising awareness and improving the quality of lives of others who have been affected.

A few years ago, due to illness, we would never have imagined crossing the finish line together, and we would love to raise money and help others recover and receive the same sense of pride we did on Sunday.’

We are extremely proud of their efforts and hard work in completing their marathon. We are sure this will be the first of many more to come!

‘I can’t wait to continue my fundraising for SANE, I just need some recovery time to get rid of these stiff legs first!’

We want to say a massive thank you to Beth and to all those who supported her and her dad in this event. We love hearing stories from our fundraisers where families come together to raise this awareness, so thank you.

You have shown us even the furry family members can get involved too!
