Banking on mental health
Added: 24th Oct 2017

SANE supporter Bex Rossall fundraised for SANE and came away with over £1,350!

She ran the Salisbury Half Marathon for SANE, which took place on 1st October. She completed it in a remarkable 2 hours and 19 minutes.

‘I decided to set myself small goals and start off small with a 5km run, then a 10km then went all in for a half marathon. The thought petrified me but I knew straight away I could and would do it and I wanted to do it supporting mental health.’

With the taste for fundraising and passion to raise awareness, Bex also held a bake sale at her workplace, on 6th October. Members of her team brought in their baked goods and sold them to customers on the day. She encouraged her colleagues to take part and cycle on an exercise bike; from 9am until 5pm. All in the name of mental health!

‘The purpose of the bike was to promote the link between the two. I have found it’s really made a difference to me so it was a great conversation point with our customers.

The customers were delighted and so supportive, so many commented on how it was nice to see us supporting such a worthy charity and we were surprised at how many could relate to either suffering or knowing someone who suffered with mental illness.’

It is great to hear people were responding to the event in this way and felt they could open up about their own experiences.

Our commander-in-chief of the Black Dog Campaign, Adrian Garcia, also took part on the day and helped with the bake sale.

Across both events, Bex managed to raise an amazing total of £1,367.58!

She continues to work very hard for SANE, promoting our services and raising awareness of mental health to those around her.

A huge thank you to Bex and all who have supported her this month – your kindness and hard work are greatly appreciated and SANE are lucky to have supporters like you.
