Q&A with Mason Noise
Added: 23rd Aug 2017

Following on from Friday's ambassadorship announcement, Mason Noise spoke to SANE about why he is supporting mental health awareness and his plans for new music.

What have you been up to since The X Factor?

Since The X Factor I did the tour and that was amazing, and since then it has been a whirlwind. I have been figuring out what sound I wanted. I make music to express my own feelings. My EP should be out by the end of the year.

Why did you want to speak out about your mental health problems?

It takes someone who is in the public eye, who people might have a perception as being perfect, to say ‘no, I have suffered, I feel what you are feeling,’ to know that it’s OK to feel that way. I went through a lot of stuff when I was in a place that some people can’t get out of.

I lost my girlfriend a year ago and that completely did a 180 on my whole life and you start to question your own mortality. I was in need of answers and I went to an event with my manager and it really helped me open up. It’s about gradually allowing yourself to talk about your feelings.

Why did you want to support SANE?

I know [SANE ambassador] James Arthur’s story. I always look for things that resonate with me and that is one of the reasons why I wanted to support SANE.

What do you hope to achieve through your music?

I have so many things that I want to do in life but as long as my music is going to help people realise their own power then that’s my end goal.

How do you hope to help people with mental health problems?

I feel amazing when I get to share what I have experienced in dealing with all this stuff. You have to feel gratitude and to feel whole. You have to feel as though you are helping humanity.

People strive for material things but all this money doesn’t make you happy – that’s why I want to raise awareness.
