Star fundraisers of May/June
Added: 20th Jun 2017

We are very lucky to have such amazing and inspiring fundraisers for SANE. May and June have been very successful months for us and our fundraisers have been very creative and daring, to raise money and awareness of mental health.

Miss Inked UK Beauty Pageant

The annual Miss Inked UK Beauty Pageant, celebrating inked women with edgier looks, raised over £3000 for SANE!

We were delighted to hear this annual pageant was raising money for us this year, following their successes from previous fundraising events.

Event coordinator, Christina Smith, shared with us why they chose to fundraise for SANE:

‘While celebrating the diversity we also raise awareness and vital funds for our chosen charities.

We chose SANE purely because mental health affects us all and we really don't feel enough funds are made to support such a good underestimated cause.’

Chloe Dymond, Miss Inked Beauty Pageant Winner 2017, praised how delighted she was representing SANE and the Inked Pageant system.

‘I thoroughly enjoyed my 7 months as a finalist it showed me how mental health was not spoken about enough, with my having lost close connections through it myself I was dedicated to spread the word on mental health. Whilst in the run up I noticed that the news is covering Mental health more and more, with many celebrities and members of the royal family coming forward.'

Papaya Student Bar Night

We were happy to hear students in Durham donating £850.24 to SANE from a local bar!

In May, Rory Hugill and Riki Ross ran the event, Papaya, at a cocktail bar called Fabio’s. The two came away with a lovely donation made by supportive students enjoying their tasteful night of music and drinks.

Established DJ, Hidden Sphere, and Riki himself DJ’d that evening!

It was a night that brought the students together in a relaxed environment with easy listening music and for a worthy cause, says Rory.

‘On behalf of Riki and myself, we are honoured to raise money for such a fantastic cause… I personally believe that mental health issues are massively stigmatised in our society, most notably at university where they are ironically at their most prevalent, and so the work that SANE does in trying to break down these barriers and make it more socially acceptable to communicate about these vital issues is absolutely commendable.’

Sapphira’s Showgirls

The beautiful ladies at Sapphira’s Showgirls raised over £600 for SANE whilst also setting 2 new World Records!

During this year’s Mental Health Week, Sapphira beat her personal record of Most Balloons Popped on a Burlesque Costume. She popped 82 balloons, having previously popped 74.

The #BurlesqueAPeel ladies set their record for the Fastest Burlesque Glove Peel Relay; 13 people in 9.04 seconds!

It was lovely to follow Sapphira’s Showgirls’ fundraising journey from their regular postings on social media.

Star Student’s Sky Dive and Badminton Tournament

Passionate student at Kings Worcester School jumps for SANE in skydive, raising £655!

On 1st June, Katie Harvey, jumped her first sky dive at the Hinton Skydiving Centre. She and two other students raised money for their chosen charities this day, and we were lucky enough to be supported by Katie.

Not only did she do this, but Katie also organised a badminton tournament in aid of SANE. Students donated and bought wristbands at this event. The school commended it as an ‘excellent badminton tour’ and shared it as #SchoolPicoftheWeek on their Twitter profile.

Katie’s dedication to our charity was proven by her successful fundraising endeavours, beating her £600 target by £55! Just amazing.

We cannot thank our wonderful fundraisers enough for all the hard work they do; they are forever inspiring and we love hearing all the innovative ways they raise awareness of mental health.

Thank you!
