SANE Creative Awards Scheme Project Officer

We are looking for an enthusiastic, self-motivated individual to help us set up an exciting new project, the SANE Creative Awards Scheme. Drawing on the success of the previous SANE Art Awards Scheme, this new project aims to improve the quality of life of people with mental health problems, their families and carers, by helping them to fulfil their creative potential. The scheme would make small grants to individuals to enable them to engage in creative and educational activities such as taking an evening course in photography or creative writing, learning to play a musical instrument or creating pieces of art.

After initial development work, we are now looking to draw up detailed proposals, with a view to launching the scheme in the coming months. We are seeking an individual with relevant experience and a strong interest in the creative arts who shares the vision for the project, to fulfil the role.

The key responsibilities of the SANE Creative Awards Scheme Project Officer will include:

  • Drawing up a budget and business plan for the scheme, including fundraising for it.
  • Drawing up proposals for financial management and monitoring of the scheme.
  • Drawing up proposals for publicising and launching the scheme.

  • Excellent organisational skills.

  • Good IT skills: Microsoft Office, Outlook and Internet.
  • Experience of using social media such as Twitter, Facebook and other channels.
  • Confidence in making approaches to organisations and individuals and conducting fact-finding interviews.
  • The ability to work on own initiative
  • The ability to prioritise and work flexibly

Desirable attributes:

  • Previous experience of setting up such a project.
  • Previous experience of budget-setting and management and business planning.
  • Previous experience of working in a grant-giving organisation.
  • Previous experience of working in the NHS or local authority sector, with particular reference to social prescribing and use of personal budgets.
  • Previous experience of working in the charity sector.
  • An interest in mental health.
