Report by The CQC into West London Mental Health NHS Trust

Comment from Marjorie Wallace, chief executive of the mental health charity SANE, on the report by the Care Quality Commission into West London Mental Health NHS Trust:

"The previous report raised profound concerns over the care and treatment provided to some of the most disturbed patients, not only in the high security hospital, Broadmoor, but across a range of hospitals and units within the trust.

"Whilst we recognize the improvements made in the last year, particularly in relation to the physical health of patients, we are disappointed that over 50 per cent of the service users interviewed for this inquiry were not aware of their care plan or arrangements for ongoing treatment.

"We are more deeply concerned that some patients report that they do not speak regularly to a member of staff. No amount of system improvement can substitute for kind, personal contact between patients and staff."
