Choice in the English Mental Health System

Created: 2009-01-08 17:39:08

To mark World Mental Health Day on 10 October, SANE published a policy briefing on choice in mental health, drawing on the findings of research into the views of patients, families and carers, clinicians and managers.

SANE presented the findings at an event in the House of Commons organised by the All Party Parliamentary Group on Mental Health and attended by MPs, peers and senior figures in the NHS, Government and other organisations.

The research found that although choice is available in some areas of healthcare, there is emerging evidence that choice in mental health continues to be an unmet need. In this briefing, we present evidence to illustrate some of the challenges of implementing choice in mental health and propose solutions.
