John Lewis

SANE is delighted to have been chosen as the John Lewis Corporate Partners' Charity of the Year for 2012-2014. This relationship will see Partners involved in employee fundraising to raise money for mental health, and initiatives to increase understanding of mental health.

The Partners got off to a brilliant start with a 340 mile cycle from London to Dusseldorf - an amazing undertaking, which raised the wonderful sum of £27,500. Peter Coleman, Commercial Analyst told us about the experience:

Day 1 was a long slog for some, particularly after some wrong turns and one person (member of the public) who thought it would be amusing to turn around a sign. The first person was in around 4.30pm and last at 9pm.

Day 2 saw a wake up call of 4.15am in readiness for the 6am ferry to Dunkirk; then 90 miles in the saddle to Gent.

Day 3 was the longest day in the saddle and 112 miles just over the Dutch border to Roostern, a very nice hotel in the countryside. Again, a longer day for some than others.

Day 4 was a more leisurely day with a 10.15am start and 55 miles to the finish in Dusseldorf. After an excellent meal it was time to unwind with a few beers in town.

A great time was had by all with many friendships anew and rekindled.
