Doing ok so far, but it's so, so hard.

It's been about 12 weeks, and I'm hanging on in there. Despite mood swings, irritability, tearfulness, mania.

I have been diagnosed with bipolar disorder for 14 years now, although I've actually had it since I was 11. I'm 44 now, so that's 33 years.

Since diagnosis I have been on and off lithium about 6 times, each attempt unsuccessful. This has been the best attempt so far. Even my psychiatrist is positive this time, and has an alternative (lamotrigine) in mind, should I relapse seriously enough to require a mood stabiliser.

That's it, that's my blog entry for now.

I'm interested in other peoples' experiences of coming off lithium, because it's one of the hardest things I've ever done, and I'm by no means there yet :(
