Why Celebrate Mental Health Awareness Week in 2019 by Amanda

Mental Health Awareness Week is May 13 through May 19th. I feel a personal connection with this week because I have struggled with low grade depression, anxiety, stress, and Body Dismorphic Disorder.

I was able to overcome many of my problems with hard work and seeking outpatient therapy. It took some time, however things slowly improved. Before I went into therapy, I felt tired, sad and unaccomplished. I was resistant to go into therapy, however with support and a lot of encouragement from my family and best friend I made my first appointment.

I feel happier and I have more self-esteem since I have completed my therapy.

Mental Health Week reminds me of how far I have come and in my personal journey of healing.
