Mental Health Awareness For Us All

Monday is the start of Mental Health Awareness Week. Those of us who live with a mental illness will be only too aware that for us, every week is mental health awareness week, but this week is such a great opportunity for everyone to learn more about mental health, to hold conversations and to absolutely end the stigma around mental health.

Personally, I believe that our mental health is just as important as our physical health, and mental illnesses should never have been, and never should be again be seen to be a taboo subject. We should all have the right to feel this is a subject that, if we choose, we can talk openly about without the fear of being judged, looked down on, or embarrassed about.

They say 1 in 4 of us experience a mental health problem. I am 1 in 4. I am not ashamed of it, I am not embarrassed by it. This is part of me, but it won't ever define me.

I promise myself this Mental Health Awareness Week, to be determined to learn as much as I can about mental health and wellbeing. To open up conversations about mental health. To, in my small way, help to end the stigma.

To anyone who is suffering right now, know you are not alone in this, that help is out there. We all have the right to be happy, and we all deserve to be.
