Volunteers are the backbone of SANEline, providing callers with emotional support, and information. There are more than 100 fully trained volunteers, based in London, each offering a four-hour shift per week. The helpline is very busy and we are constantly looking for new volunteers.
Volunteering is a richly rewarding experience. Volunteers know that they are contributing to a vital service that wouldn't exist without them. They also receive a dynamic training which they can apply to their career and their everyday life.
The Volunteer Training Programme has been accredited by the Open College Network. Volunteers can achieve credits for their helpline practice. Accreditation means that the quality of training and volunteer programme management has been externally assessed and approved. Continuing external independent monitoring will ensure the maintenance of standards. At the same time, volunteers can be confident of receiving quality training to develop the knowledge and skills they need to be effective on the helpline, and that they will have a positive and valuable experience with SANEline.
