We receive calls from mental health service users, their carers, professionals and people seeking information on mental health issues. 64% of service users who call SANEline are female. About one quarter of the carers who call are males.



Most service users and some carers are seeking emotional support or feeling distressed. Eighteen percent of people who call SANEline are seeking information of some type regarding: treatment, legal issues, benefits, or support groups. A smaller proportion of callers are suicidal or calling regarding someone who is feeling suicidal. Most callers have received a diagnosis of depression or schizophrenia or are calling about someone who has received one of these diagnoses
