Research is a very important part of our work at SANE. We believe that the dissemination of knowledge and increasing people's understanding of mental illness are vital in changing people's attitudes.
In London our research department focuses on the social and psychological impact of mental illness on people's lives. Visit our research library which outlines the research papers written by past and present members of the research Department or go to our psychology laboratory to take part in an online survey. At POWIC, our research centre in Oxford, there are teams of scientists working on the causes and origins of psychosis in the brain.
We need your support so we can continue developing these vital research projects.
The research department aims to advance the understanding of mental illness by providing innovative scientific research, statistical information and focussed, resourceful consultation. We endeavour to be responsive, efficient and focussed in achieving our objectives, whilst always striving to conduct research in a responsible and ethical manner.
Internally, we conduct anonymised analyses of callers to SANEline in order that we can provide the best possible service to our callers. We share statistical and research information with government departments, the media and other mental health agencies.
We also regularly conduct research projects focussing on areas of mental health care and the experiences of service users.
We are currently recruiting participants for a study that examines service user choice in the mental health system. Visit our psychology laboratory for more details.
Surveys such as this enable visitors to the SANE website to have their say about important issues around mental health, treatments and services. For information about past surveys visit the Research Library.
If you are unable to help with our current surveys perhaps you could assist Oxford University with their work. They are currently looking for participants for a study regarding the emotional side-effects of antidepressants. Visit the Evaluation of the OQESA - Research Study site for details.
