Michael Wharton: An Exhibition of Paintings and Drawings

Created: 2005-03-01 19:23:43

SANE is delighted to be the recipient of proceeds from an exhibition of works by Michael Wharton to be held at the Knapp Gallery, London from 9-31st March 2005.

Michael Wharton (1933-1997) practised as a painter, taught drawing and painting and lectured on music, having trained in painting and sculpture at the Slade School of Fine Art. His work has been widely exhibited, including shows with the London Group and the Royal Academy. Michael has left a rich legacy of works including series of related paintings and drawings, in which characteristically every mark and colour is active and integrated into a dynamic whole.

Michael had schizophrenia for over twenty years and his condition dictated that work was restricted to very short periods. It was only with difficulty, determination and confidence in his ability as an artist that he was able to focus his energy to the necessary intensity to work under these circumstances.

The Knapp Gallery, Regent’s College, Regent’s Park, London NW1 4NS (entry to park via York Gate, nearest tube Baker Street). Please note entry to the gallery is restricted on certain days - for information and general enquiries please call 020 7487 7540. Closed Easter.
