The Volunteer Training Programme has achieved accreditation by the Open College Network. This means national recognition for the content and delivery of the training and management programme for helpline volunteers.
More importantly, this means that our volunteers can gain credits in recognition of the level of knowledge and competence they achieve working for the helpline. Credits will enable them to demonstrate their achievements and learning to employers. In addition, credits may help volunteers gain entry to other further or higher education courses, or to gain exemption from course modules. We are pleased to note also that some counselling courses now accept SANELINE practice as part of students clinical practice work.
At the end of 2002, SANELINE’s training achievements were recognised when we received a Finalist Award from National Training Awards (NTA). NTA rewards achievement in training (usually in business). We had to demonstrate how we developed and delivered training to meet SANE’s objectives. In this case it was how our training for volunteers enables SANE to deliver the SANELINE service so consistently and effectively, every day of the year. It is an achievement that the business sector recognised the hard work and dedication of SANE and SANELINE staff in establishing and developing the helpline since its inception in 1992.
