A far cry: SANE response to New Horizons consultation

Comment from Marjorie Wallace, chief executive of mental health charity SANE, on the Government's consultation on mental health and wellbeing:

"This new vision is a far cry from the daily reality experienced by the individuals, families and professionals at the front line of mental health. Whilst it is good to aspire to a state of mental wellbeing for everyone, we are concerned at how this can be delivered while the psychiatric services are fighting to deliver care and treatment under pressure of cutbacks, bed closures and shortages of trained and experienced staff.

"Despite all the investment and some reforms, you only have to read recent reports to realise the dissonance between the new vision and the true realisation of the old."
