London Health Forum and Debt Remedy

The London Health Forum is promoting the use of the Consumer Credit Counselling Service’s (CCCS) online Debt Remedy Programme, which provides an anonymous, easy to use assessment of someone’s personal finances and a proposed course of action.

The London Health Forum has been established as a coalition to promote partnership between the voluntary and private sectors with the statutory sector in addressing the unmet health needs of Londoners and pathways to best practice.

As part of this year’s programme, London Health Forum is promoting the use of the Consumer Credit Counselling Service’s (CCCS) online Debt Remedy Programme.

London Health Forum is working with the Department of Health, NHS London, London Councils and SANE, with a view to ameliorating some of the worst affects of the recession on health. In particular, there is significant evidence supporting a link between debt and poorer mental health. Conversely, people who obtain debt advice have better health outcomes. A strategy aimed at getting people to debt advice sooner, despite their natural inclination to ignore such problems, will therefore pay considerable dividends, not least in relieving the burden on London’s health services.
