Innovation is essential for improved medicines, better patient care and efficient use of resources. On Thursday, 14 June 2007 over 750 guests attended a charitable dinner hosted by Joanna Lumley OBE and Rory Bremner, to celebrate innovation in healthcare and to raise money for SANE.
The evening helped raise over £70,000 and it was an honour for SANE to be the beneficiary charity of this high profile awards event - the equivalent of the Oscars for the medical world.
The Medical Futures Innovation Awards were developed five years ago and are recognised within the industry as the most sought after healthcare accolade. The Innovation Awards allow healthcare professionals to suggest and implement improvements to medicines, patient care, and to ensure efficient use of NHS budgets.
The judging process saw medical innovators pitching their ideas to a panel of experts in a Dragon’s Den style to prove they have what it takes to launch the next breakthrough in healthcare innovation. The 30 winning medical innovations range from doctors, scientists and small businesses.
Over 500 quality entries were received in a number of medical areas including critical care, cancer, orthopaedics, cardiology and mental health. Winning a Medical Futures Innovation Award brings unparalleled validation and endorsement to an idea, project or business. Past winners have gained widespread publicity and introduction to investors and industry leaders.
