Why Support SANE

SANE was born out of a belief that urgent action had to be taken to ease the pain of people affected by mental illness.

When the charity was established back in 1986, mental illness had been shrouded in secrecy for such a long time that sufferers, their families and friends were are often left feeling helpless and isolated, many felt that they had nowhere to turn.

Over 20 years later whilst there have been many successes, the pain is still there. That is why SANE continues to work towards its three main objectives:

Today SANE helps over 25,000 people through its SANEline and SANEmail services, it is a strong and persistent campaigning voice across the media and continues to discover new insights into mental health through its social and clinical research work.

At SANE we have the experience and knowledge to make real and lasting improvements in peoples’ lives. We know how to use every penny donated to us in the best way to make a difference, whether it is supporting an individual through a period of crisis or lobbying the government for better services.

SANE relies on public donations. At present, it takes around £1.5million each year to fund our work but we need to do more. We need to be able to support more people, to gain more insight into the causes and effects of mental illness and we need to keep shouting out against stigma and cuts in services.

We need your support.

"Raising money for SANE proved to be great fun and I was surprised how easily I managed to hit my target. I was amazed by everyone's generosity"
