Supporting SANE

One in four British adults experience at least one diagnosable mental health problem in any one year. This means over ten million men and women (and over 1m children) confronting a difficult illness that can be hard to manage, is often misunderstood, and frequently stigmatised.

Mental illness – stress, anxiety, addiction, obsession, phobias, eating disorders, depression, bi-polar disorder, self-harm, schizophrenia – touches every point in society. The World Health Organisation rates mental illness as the most debilitating of all conditions, ahead of heart disease and cancer. The human cost and impact on communities creates an urgent mandate for coherent action. SANE responds to this reality on a daily basis.

SANE provides a practical solution to the challenge of mental illness:

SERVICES: Providing emotional support, care, advice and information for people with mental health problems, their carers and families, through SANE Services:

SANEline; SANEmail & askTheSite; Discussion Board; Caller Care and Befriending

RESEARCH: Investigating the causes, nature and impact of mental health problems through rigorous neuroscientific and psychological research.

CAMPAIGNING: Raising awareness; combating stigma; educating and working to improve mental health services.
