Discussion Board
The new SANE Discussion Board launched on 10th of October 2007. We hope you find the improved service as helpful and supportive as the old one. It is no longer possible to post messages on the runboard discussion board but it is available to read only.
SANE Discussion Board policy. All members to read and accept these when using the Board, please.
SANE provides the discussion board as a space for people to share their thoughts and feelings with and provide mutual support to anyone experiencing mental health issues, including friends and family.
The intention is to provide a safe place to allow members to voice their opinions and take ownership of the space provided. For this reason posts and personal messages from researchers and journalists (both students and professionals) are not permitted. Anyone who fails to respect this request will have their post deleted and receive an instant ban.
By becoming a member, we ask you to adhere to the following guidelines. If, at any time, you choose not to accept these, please do not use the SANE Discussion Board.
Please:
- Ensure there is nothing in your post which is, or might be, regarded as harassing, threatening, abusive, vulgar, obscene, defamatory, racist or otherwise unlawful. This includes swearing at another member, ethnic or gender based insults, posts of a sexual nature, religious abuse, or any other personal insults.
- Some topics, such as suicide and self harm, can trigger very difficult feelings in other members. Whilst we do not wish to stop people from discussing such difficult issues, it is important to remain mindful of the impact this kind of content could have on other members. Some people may wish to avoid reading posts of this nature, so please mark the topic of such a post with *trig*.
- Treat all members as you would wish to be treated yourself; with respect, empathy and understanding.
- Do not mock, bully, insult or judge another member.
- Please note this site can be viewed by anyone with Internet facilities, anywhere in the world. Therefore, we recommend that no personal or identifiable details are used on the website or its forms. Respect the privacy of others. Do not post other people's phone numbers, addresses, pictures, etc.
- Respect the actions of moderators and the Webmaster; SANE aims to ensure the discussion board is a safe and welcoming environment for all, operating an equal opportunities policy.
- Members who demonstrate persistent, inappropriate behaviour, breaching the guidelines above, will be subject to SANE's warning and banning procedures.
- If you no longer wish to be a member, please contact the moderator by Private Message. Your name will be removed from the members list within 5 working days.
- Contact the moderator by Private Message if you wish to make a complaint about the discussion board service or have any questions or concerns about it. We welcome feedback and suggestions for how the Board can be improved.
- Please note, Private Messages are exactly that; no-one else is able to see these private exchanges between members. SANE cannot view or control these, and therefore cannot take responsibility for any Private Messages. If you do not wish to receive Private Messages from another member, please follow the procedures to block this user from your inbox. If you feel a member is using the Private Messaging to contact you inappropriately, please inform SANE, who will assess the situation according to our established policies and procedures.
Please be aware that SANE cannot vouch for the information exchanged between contributors to this discussion group and does not necessarily support the views expressed on it.
If you have any health concerns, please consult your doctor. Information and support is also available from SANEline and SANEmail. Other useful links can be found here.
SANE reserves the right to remove any messages we believe to be abusive, or potentially harmful to other users of this board, without prior warning.
