SANE conducted research looking at choice as it is experienced and defined in the health service by patients, families and carers, clinicians and managers. The different interpretations are discussed and several recommendations are made. Amongst others, SANE highlights the need for a clear definition of choice and guidance for implementation as this would help manage expectations and ensure accountability.
The report is relevant for anyone interested in the choice agenda and particularly advocates who want to move the debate forward.

Choice in the English Mental Health System: a Policy Briefing

The Think Twice service user handbook and health professional companion guide provide a step-by-step guide to understanding, identifying, and where possible, preventing relapse. Drawing on the research findings that many users of this website contributed to, the guides aim to play a key role in the management of schizophrenia and bipolar disorder by providing simple and practical advice. As each person's experience is different the service user handbook also provides you with a 'tool' to record key information to help develop personalised steps for dealing with relapse.
