The Royal College of Psychiatrists is the professional and educational body for psychiatrists in the United Kingdom and the Republic of Ireland. It promotes mental health by setting standards and promoting excellence in mental health care; improving understanding through research and education; leading, representing, training and supporting psychiatrists; working with patients, carers and their organisations.
Samaritans provides confidential non-judgemental emotional support, 24 hours a day for people experiencing feelings of distress or despair, including those which could lead to suicide. They offer a service by telephone, email, letter and face to face in most branches.
Together is a national charity working for well-being. The charity supports people with mental health needs to get what they want from life and feel happier. Together delivers wide-ranging services across the country and strongly advocates reducing the stigma attached to mental health. Together also campaigns, develops research and educates on behalf of service users everywhere.
NHS Direct is at the forefront of 24-hour health care - delivering telephone and e-health information services day and night direct to the public. Although the organisation started out in 1997, it has been growing and changing over that time, most noticeably since April 2004.
